SUMMARY:Back in time for crime
DESCRIPTION:I’ll be beading back to Rothesay\, on the lovely Isle of Bute\, on Saturday October 8 in the company of pal and author Gordon Brown. \nAh well\, you can’t have everything! \n \nGordon will be talking about his pacy new novel ANY DAY NOW\, set in the 1980s\, while I’ll be prattling about AN HONOURABLE THIEF\, set in the 18th century. \nIf you’re on the island\, or fancy a trip down the watter\, then why not come see us? \nTickets cost £5 and are available from Print Point\, the island’s superb bookshop\, although the event will take place in the town’s museum. Which is fitting both for the subject matter of our books and because we are old. \n

SUMMARY:In conversation with crime writer Caro Ramsay
DESCRIPTION:Public appearances are back\, folks! \nIn September there was Bloody Scotland and now we have Book Week Scotland taking place between November 15 and 21. \nFirst up for me is this chat with pal Caro Ramsay in Paisley Central Library on Wednesday November 17 at 7pm. \nCaro is always value for money (even though the tickets are free) and her books are absolutely terrific. \nShe also seems to be issuing one a week at the moment. That’s an exaggeration but that’s the way it seems. \nSo if you’re in the area\, why not come along?

SUMMARY:Crime at the Castle
DESCRIPTION:I’m honoured to be part of a truly incredible roster of Scottish crime writers at the very first Crime at the Castle. \nAnd what a setting! \nGlamis Castle is reputed to be one of the most haunted sites in Scotland and has\, according to my trusty Gazetteer of Scottish and Irish Ghosts by Peter Underwood\, a haunted chamber\, the ghost of Earl Beardie who played cards with the devil (and lost)\, a bloodstain that never washes out\, a white lady\, a tall figure in a long coat and various other ghosts\, bogles and even a vampire. \nAnd then there’s the monstrous child\, kept away from all eyes in a hidden room. They say that guests staying at the castle once hung towels from the windows of every room but when they went outside there were still windows with no towels – and yet they had opened every door in the castle. \nAll grist to the mill as far as crime writers are concerned. \nI’ll be there\, soaking up the atmosphere during the event on Saturday February 24. \nOther writers appearing are: \nAlex Gray \nCaro Ramsay \nCaroline Dunford \nChris Brookmyre \nChris Longmuir \nCraig Robertson \nDenise Mina \nFrank Muir \nJackie Mclean \nLin Anderson \nMichael J Malone \nSandra Ireland \nShona MacLean \nVal McDermid \nWendy H. Jones \n  \nIt’s quite a line-up! \nThe day-long event will see a mixture of interviews\, talks and workshops. My workshop is on how to create a series and it’s already fully booked\, which naturally pleases me no end. \nLater\, I’ll be chating to Sandra Ireland about hard-boiled crime. \n \nThere are still a very few places left on this exciting new addition to Scotland’s roster of crime festival so if you fancy seeing some great writers (and me) in a fabulous setting\, book no! \nDetails here: \nhttp://www.glamis-castle.co.uk/event_detail.cfm/event_ID/147/title/title=Crime-at-the-Castle

SUMMARY:An author's life for me
DESCRIPTION:I’m heading to Alloa in February for a Meet the Author session. \nTowards the end of last year they enjoyed a jam-packed session from none other than Chris Brookmyre\, so it’s a case of follow that\, Skelton. \nNo pressure. \nSeriously. \nAnyway\, I’ll be doing my Author’s Life For Me thing in the Speirs Centre from 7pm on Tuesday February 6. \nIt’s a light-hearted look at what writers go through to get the books out there on the shelves. \nHope you can make it. \nMore details here: \nhttps://www.clacksweb.org.uk/community/events/?event=2248

SUMMARY:Caro Ramsay launches new book
DESCRIPTION:Bloody hell! \nThat Caro Ramsay’s got a new book heading into the hands of eager fans. \nYes – another one! Does she eat? \nI’m chatting to Caro Ramsay for the launch of her new book on November 30 \nIt’s called THE SUFFERING OF STRANGERS and it’s bound to be another belter. \nAnd she’ll be launching it during Book Week Scotland in the Prima Vera Bistro\, courtesy of Waterstones Newton Mearns. \nApparently\, she’ll be in conversation with yours truly. \nWe’ll talk about the book\, the inspiration\, the symbolism with which her work is replete and the existential angst of writing about crime. \nIf you’ve ever been to an event with Caro\, you’ll know that to be a complete lie. \nThe book is serious but the event will be fun. \nI wouldn’t miss it. \nActually\, I’d better not – Caro knows how to kill without leaving a trace. \nMore info here: \nhttps://www.waterstones.com/events/an-evening-with-caro-ramsay/newton-mearns-37241 \n

SUMMARY:Skelton's skeletons - Campbeltown Library
DESCRIPTION:The midway point of my three day mini tour of Argyll and Bute takes me to Campbeltown\, just down the road from the land of my forefathers (which was Gigha\, by the way). \nThis is another event for the fabulous Book Week Scotland\, organised by the Scottish Book Trust (yay for them!) \n \nThese next two events are called Skelton’s Skeletons. Will I be pulling anything out of the closet? Of course I will – I’m not heading there naked. It’s the end of November\, for goodness sake. I’d freeze my plots off. \nI’ll talking about the life of a writer. Luckily\, that writer happens to be me so I know a thing or two about it. \nI’ll discuss the books\, both fiction and non. I’ll talk about the process. I’ll talk about dealing with reviews. \nIt’s all light-hearted stuff\, so if you’re in Campbeltown\, come see me. \nMore info here: \nhttp://www.scottishbooktrust.com/about/events/skeltons-skeletons-campbeltown-library \n  \nWith thanks to Argyll and Bute Libraries and Scottish Book Trust.

SUMMARY:Murder with a Smile on Glasgow's Byres Road
DESCRIPTION:I am really pleased to have been invited to participate in the very first Byres Road Book Festival. \nI’ll be appearing with Aline Templeton and old pal Matt Bendoris in a panel discussing Murder With A Smile. \nAnother pal\, Mark Leggatt\, will be chairing us. \nIt promises to be loads of fun and it’d be nice to see you all there. \nMark Leggatt\, Aline Templeton\, Douglas Skelton\, Matt Bendoris \nFor many years I worked on the local paper for the West End of Glasgow. \nIt was first the West End News\, then the West End Times\, then the Glasgow Guardian\, when it became a free newspaper. We joked that if it didn’t change its name every few years\, we got bored. \nI’ve got many happy memories of the paper and the area. People I met and who I have since lost touch with. Pubs we used to drink in. Table tennis in a local church hall at lunchtimes. \nIt was a great period of my life and like many such periods I didn’t appreciate them fully at the time! \n

No? We sold out!) then you’ll get one\, or more\, here. And I’ll sign it at no extra charge. \nCaro will be launching her new book RAT RUN\, which promises to be an absolute belter\, while Theresa will have brand new\, hot off the presses copies of her terrific crime book PENANCE. \nCaro and Theresa are great at this sort of thing and you won’t be disappointed by their chat.
