SUMMARY:Taking Ship of Thieves to Kirkcaldy
DESCRIPTION:Douglas will be in Waterstones Kirkcaldy on Tuesday October 7 to talk about the fifth Jonas Flynt historical thriller SHIP OF THIEVES – and no doubt his other books. \nWe really can’t keep him to stay on topic\, to be honest. \nIf you live in the area\, why not come say hello?

SUMMARY:Join the jury in Largs
DESCRIPTION:Come and be part of the jury next Monday in Largs Library. \nI’m visiting Largs Writers and will be outlining some real-life cases from the past – names and locations changed – and inviting the audience to debate the guilt or innocence of the accused. \nIt’s based on the long-running series of articles I did for a Sunday newspaper magazine a few years ago and have presented a similar event in Ayr. \nSo come along and join in – it’s free but spaces are limited so phone the library on 01475 673309

SUMMARY:New format for Four Blokes in Search of a Plot
DESCRIPTION:Well\, this is scary. \nInspired by the success (well\, we enjoyed it) of the #ScotLitFest Crime Collaboration Creation\, in which over four hours on Facebook we created a brand new crime tale. It was original\, some might say unique\, some might say off-beat\, some might say just plain crazy. \nBut here’s the really crazy thing… \nWe’re going to do it again. \nAnd this time we’ll be within striking distance of the audience! \nNo hiding behind social media for us – oh\, no. We’ll be a mere book’s throw away from the front row. \nAnd in September we’re doing it not once but twice (Yes! Count ’em!) \nFirst up is Bloody Scotland on September 10 in Stirling and you’ll find further details here: \nBloody Scotland event \n  \nAs for the second one\, I’ll publish details of that soon. \nSo if you’re going to Bloody Scotland – and if not\, why the hell not? – get yourself a ticket to see Neil Broadfoot\, Gordon Brown\, Mark Leggatt and myself (hereinafter to be known as the accused). \nIt’s madness – madness\, I tell you…. \n

SUMMARY:You the Jury
DESCRIPTION:For Book Week Scotland this year I’m back in court – figuratively speaking\, of course. \nI’m presenting another You the Jury session in Ayr’s Carnegie Library on Thursday November 24. \nIf you were at the last one you’ll know what it’s all about. If you weren’t\, here’s the idea… \nI take some real-life cases\, change the names and locations and present the basic facts and it’s up to you to decide if the verdict was guilty or innocent. \nThis time round I’m going to use some historical cases\, some from w-a-a-a-y back. \nSo come along\, be part of the jury\, listen to the evidence and make your mind up. \nDetails here: \nYou The Jury

SUMMARY:Back to my old stomping ground with Crime Factor!
DESCRIPTION:On Thursday June 30\, the Crime Factor rounds off National Crime Reading Month by visiting my old stomping ground – East Kilbride. \nWell\, it’s me we’re talking about so it was less a case of stomping\, more treading lightly and not causing a fuss. \nI’m older now\, though\, and all set to raise a ruckus! \nYes\, I spent my teenage years in the town. I went to school there\, I got drunk there for the first time\, fell in love for the first time\, second time\, probably a few more times. I fall very easily. Especially now when I’m not so steady on my pins. \nI developed my love of the movies there\, attending the Cinema sometimes twice a week. That’s what it was called\, stunningly original I know but it was my home from home. \nI built tree houses and dens. I roamed fields and forests that are now housing estates. I did hospital radio in Hairmyres and Philipshill. I stand up – well\, I was on my feet and there were jokes of a sort – in school concerts. \nAnyway\, Neil Broadfoot\, Gordon GJ Brown\, Mark Leggatt and I – overseen with an iron first by Peter Burnett – will be in the Waterstones store in the town centre\, which hasn’t half grown since I lived there. I mean\, I remember having my first shave when I turned a corner in the square one day. As you can see\,I haven’t had one since. Now it’s all enclosed. And it’s some place\, too. \nSo come along and see us. It’s free and it’s fun. \n  \nWaterstones EK \nMyself\, Neil Broadfoot\, Mark Leggatt and Gordon GJ Brown. Picture by Daniel Morrison. And yes\, Neil was holding me up.

SUMMARY:
DESCRIPTION:Book Week Scotland will be up us in the last week of November. \nI’m lucky enough to be taking part in three events during the week. \nThe first is on Wednesday November 25 when I’ll be visiting Dalkeith Library to go head-to-head with that Neil Broadfoot fella. You know the guy – shortlisted for the Scottish Crime Book of the Year in 2014 for his very first book\, ‘Falling Fast.’ Second book\, ‘The Storm’\, was even better. You can learn to hate a chap. \nIt’s a free event and if you’re in the area\, be great to see you! \n  \nDetails below. \nDalkeith event

SUMMARY:Carry on Sleuthing - the most fun you'll have solving a murder
DESCRIPTION:A man is murdered on a luxury ocean liner. There is a variety of suspects. Shrewd amateur detective Letitia Luvibod is on hand to solve it – and you can help her. \nAnd it’s all happening in Ayr’s Carnegie Library. \nAyrshire-based authors Michael. J. Malone and Douglas Skelton will join library staff to present the radio-style play ‘Carry on Sleuthing’ on Monday night. \nThere will be jokes\, a mystery to solve\, more jokes and wine – which will help with the jokes. \n \nSkelton wrote the play specially for the event following a challenge from the staff to cup with something special for National Crime Reading Month. \nHe said: “The gauntlet was thrown down and for a long time I claimed a bad back prevented me from picking it up. The bad part of my back had a big yellow streak running through it but finally I overcame my fears\, took down the Big Book of Bad Jokes for Boys and began writing. \n“Long before I turned to killing people for a living – on paper at least – I’d written comedy for shows on hospital radio in Glasgow. I’d never actually weaved a solvable mystery through them\, though\, so this presented a whole range of challenges.” \nHe continued: “I think the title of the play shows the rough level of the humour\, although perhaps not as racy as you might expect. It is a family show\, after all!” \nSkelton has roped in friend and fellow author Michael J. Malone to tap into his inner De Niro to take part. \nMichael said: “I’ve been reading up on Stanislavsky to properly get into my character and bring him to life. I intend to bring some gravitas to what are\, frankly\, some pretty ridiculous scenes. \n“Or I may just get some wine down my neck and go for some cheap laughs.” \n  \n‘Carry on Sleuthing’ is part of National Crime Reading Month and can be seen in the Carnegie Library\, Ayr on Monday June 29\, 7pm to 9pm. It’s part of the Book Group Social Evening although anyone is welcome. Tickets cost £2 and booking is essential. Tel: 01292 286385 or drop-in to the library at 12 Main Street\, Ayr KA8 8EB.
