DESCRIPTION:It has been twenty years since I last left these shores to sally forth in foreign climes. \nBut at the end of this month I’m doing just that. \nFor the crime writers known collectively as the Four Blokes (because there are four of us and we are chaps) will be searching for their plot in sunny Javea on the Costa Blanca. \nThe show\, as our loyal fan knows –  although I do think her mind is slipping – is improvisational\, which is a fancy word for chaotic. \nWe are given a main character and a murder weapon and then we take it in turns to write 100 or so words of a crime story\, with the audience selecting who goes next. \nOh\, and we write while wearing the Tea Cosy of Inspiration. \nIt’s all very dignified. \nThe Spanish tour (we will drive to and from the airport) is part of a local festival and we are delighted to have been invited to take part. \nAnd it’s already nearly sold out\, which is good. \nI do wonder if they know what they’ve let themselves in for. \nMore Here: \nFour Blokes in Spain

DESCRIPTION:It’s festival season for me. \nAnd my first port of call is BUTE NOIR. \n \nFor those of you not blessed to live in or be acquainted with God’s country (that’s Scotland\, in case you were wondering)\, Bute is a jewel of an island in the Firth of Clyde. \nAnd Bute Noir is a jewel of a festival. \nI mean\, just look at the names on that poster above. \nTalk about star power? \nOK\, there’s also Caro Ramsay but you can’t have everything. \nThe islanders have really taken this annual event to their hearts. They pack every panel or event\, with many selling out within days of going on sale. \nThis year’s festival takes place over the weekend of August 2-4 at a variety of venues in Rothesay\, including the museum\, the library and Print Point\, the island’s excellent book shop. \nHere’s is the full list of events but most of them have already sold out. DESCRIPTION:After the heady excitement that will be appearing at Granite Noir for the first time in February\, I’ll be heading back to Aberdeenshire in March to take part in two events at this year’s brilliant Portsoy Literary Festival (March 8-10). \nOn Friday night I’ll be getting my judge on to present YOU THE JURY. \n \nAs regulars readers will know\, I present the basic facts of a real-life criminal case (all names and locations all changed) and the invite the audience to deliberate on guilt\, or otherwise. \nWhenever I’ve presented this in the past it has stimulated an incredible amount of debate. None of the cases are recent and most were gleaned from beyond these shores. \n  \nOn the Sunday I’ll be sharing a panel with bestselling author James Robertson\, chaired by yet another bestselling author\, Lin Anderson. \n  \n  \n  \nAnd if we’re not enough for you – the festival will also feature Jim McColl and Val McDermid! \nI’m looking forward to heading up to the Moray coast for this weekend. DESCRIPTION:  \n  \nYes – it’s true!\nThose Four Blokes are still searching for that plot and the trail is taking them back to Dumfries’ fabulous Theatre Royal. \nOnce again\, they will be joined the Carry on Sleuthing team in a double bill of mirther (that’s a mixture of mirth and murder\, in case you hadn’t spotted it). \n  \nThe crime writers on offer in the show are Caro Ramsay\, Lucy Cameron\, Neil Broadfoot\, Gordon Brown\, Mark Leggatt\, Michael J. Malone and Douglas Skelton. \nThe blokes will\, as usual\, create a crime story before the audience’s very eyes – and given it’s taking place on Burns Night\, there may well be a Bardic flavour. Be prepared for exploding haggi\, Slashy Sarks and a man’s a corpse for a’ that. \n \nThe Carry on Sleuthing epic this year will be ‘A Death on the Ocean Wave’\, a cunning tale of murder and skulduggery aboard an ocean liner. Once again ace sleuth Letitia Luvibod will look up from her knitting to fathom the mystery and bring the identity of the dastardly murderer to the surface – but the audience have to spot the clues and put forward their own theories. SUMMARY:A weekend of murder and mayhem
DESCRIPTION:It’s an attractive little town\, like many in the highlands. Neat streets. Solid stone buildings. Stunning views to the mountains. \nBut for one weekend a year it becomes the focal point of murder and mayhem. A centre of dark acts and despicable deeds. \nAnd that’s just the jokes in Carry on Sleuthing! \nYes\, it’s time for the Wee Crime Festival in lovely Grantown-on-Spey (November 2-4). \n \nThis will mark the fourth year I’ve trekked northwards for this absolutely terrific event and one of these years they’ll find me out. \nOnce again the Crime Writers Associated Players (CWAP) will be debuting a brand new Carry on Sleuthing. There will be drama\, horror and tears. And that’s just when Michael J. Malone can’t find his sporran. \nCaro Ramsay will once again be taking the leading role. Spinster sleuth Letitia Luvibod is becoming very much her alter ego\, I think. \n \nBut that’s just one event in the weekend of fun and fear. \nThere are top names attending this year. \nStuart McBride! \nAlex Gray! \nCraig Robertson! \nAlex Sokoloff! \nNeil Broadfoot! \nSandra Ireland! \nThomas Enger! \nMargaret Kirk! \nHelen Forbes! \nHugh Pugh\, Barney McGrew! \nWell\, okay perhaps not the last two. \nThe events mostly take place in the Pagoda\, a terrific venue in the town\, while the Saturday night dinner takes over the Garth Hotel restaurant and the Sunday session will be found in Grantown Golf Club. \nCome along and make a weekend of it. It is a truly great festival – Marjorie in the Bookmark and her willing band of volunteers really do a great job in pulling all this together. \n
