SUMMARY:Bloody Scotland 2025
DESCRIPTION:Douglas has been a regular face at Bloody Scotland\, the international crime writing festival held in Stirling every September. \nAnd this year he’s back\, not as a panel chair but talking about his own work. \nOn Friday September 12 at 2pm he’ll be sharing the stage at Holy Trinity Church with authors Charlotte Philly and Phillip Miller. \nEach has a a journalist at the centre of their stories. \nThe Other Side of Fear is the latest thrilling outing for Douglas Skelton’s investigative journalist Rebecca Connolly as murder haunts the island of Stoirm. The Hollow Tree sees the return of Phillip Miller’s defiant reporter Shona Sandison in a beguiling trip into the occult. Charlotte Philby’s stylish Dirty Money introduces journalist turned private investigator Ramona Chang in a plot shimmering with menace and effortless cool. \nBloody Scotland is yet another fabulous festival and if you’ve never visited\, now is the time.

Malone and I will the joined by guests stars SG MacLean\, Lesley Kelly\, Olga Wojtas and James Oswald in the comedy. For want of a better word. \nShona MacLean has walked the boards before\, so she should know better. Lesley Kelly has also appeared in a previous show. Olga and James are fresh meat…sorry\, newcomers. \nThe play kicks off the festival weekend during which all the above will be joined by author Mark Leggatt for panels and chats and\, on Saturday night\, a quiz being concocted by Caro Ramsay. \nIt really is a fun weekend and if you can get to this lovely town nestling at the foot of the Cairngorms\, then we’d love to see you. \nSee the poster illustrations for details. All events will take place in the newly refurbished Grantown YMCA Community Centre on the Main Street. \njtasjtas \n

SUMMARY:Denzil and me at Aye Write 2020
DESCRIPTION:The programme for the superb Glasgow literary festival Aye Write has been announced – and I’m in it! \nYay! \nI’m paired with someone called Denzil Meyrick\, who must be a newcomer because I’ve heard very little about him and he’s not very active on social media at all. \nApparently\, his books are good though. \nAnd we’re being interviewed by another brash newcomer called Theresa Talbot\, who is apparently also good. \nTheresa Talbot \nI think they’re just giving these fresh starts a hand up by pairing them with a more seasoned hand. \nI really should be more careful when shaking that pepper pot. \n \n \nSeriously\, I’m looking forward to the event. \nDenzil is a huge draw and Theresa is brilliant interviewer and author. \nAlso\, we’re pals (they’ll deny it\, but I have emails) so it will be a laugh. \nCome along and see us if you can. \nWe’re appearing on Friday March 20 at 7.45pm in the Mitchell Library. \nYou can find details here: \nDenzil and Douglas at Aye Write

SUMMARY:Four Blokes go to Spain
DESCRIPTION:It has been twenty years since I last left these shores to sally forth in foreign climes. \nBut at the end of this month I’m doing just that. \nFor the crime writers known collectively as the Four Blokes (because there are four of us and we are chaps) will be searching for their plot in sunny Javea on the Costa Blanca. \nThe show\, as our loyal fan knows –  although I do think her mind is slipping – is improvisational\, which is a fancy word for chaotic. \nWe are given a main character and a murder weapon and then we take it in turns to write 100 or so words of a crime story\, with the audience selecting who goes next. \nOh\, and we write while wearing the Tea Cosy of Inspiration. \nIt’s all very dignified. \nThe Spanish tour (we will drive to and from the airport) is part of a local festival and we are delighted to have been invited to take part. \nAnd it’s already nearly sold out\, which is good. \nI do wonder if they know what they’ve let themselves in for. \nMore Here: \nFour Blokes in Spain

DESCRIPTION:I’ve got some chairing gigs at Aye Write once again this year. I enjoy chairing these events because more often than not they give me the chance to read great books that I might not ordinarily be able to read. \nIt’s another mixed bag this year\, beginning with a fascinating pictorial look at ship models. \nDetails here: \nShip models of the Clyde \nThe next one will see me talking to others of novels that explore the grey areas between fact and fiction. \nMore here: \nFact Behind Fiction \nAnd finally I’ll be delving into the murky world of espionage. \nMore here: \nLast Cambridge Spy \n  \nAll events in Glasgow’s wonderful Mitchell Library.

SUMMARY:Four Blokes put the ho-ho in homicide
DESCRIPTION:Four Blokes in Search of a Plot – Neil Broadfoot\, Gordon Brown\, Mark Leggatt and Douglas Skelton – are heading to the Glasgow International Comedy Festival. \n \nOn Wednesday March 18 they will be ensconced in The Glad Café on the city’s Pollokshaws Road and delivering their own particular brand of mayhem and madness. \nYes\, there will be a mirtherrrr…! \n \nIt’s an improvisational show that sees the guys given a main character and murder weapon and then take turns to create a crime story\, with the audience selecting who goes next. \nAnd as they write their 100 words or so\, they don the sacred Tea Cosy of Inspiration. SUMMARY:Murder on Mull
DESCRIPTION:I’m very pleased to be returning to Mull later this month to take part in the West Over Sea literary festival in Tobermory. \nI’m also delighted to be sharing a podium with Alex Gray\, talking about Murder in Mull. \nAlex has\, of course\, used the real-life island as a backdrop whereas I have only used it magpie-like in creating the island of Stoirm. It’s pronounced Stirrum\, by the way. \nI do love the island – I love all the islands I’ve visited – and I’m looking forward to getting back. \nAlex and I will be rabbiting on Thursday October 24. \nDetails here

SUMMARY:Bute Noir 2019
DESCRIPTION:It’s festival season for me. \nAnd my first port of call is BUTE NOIR. \n \nFor those of you not blessed to live in or be acquainted with God’s country (that’s Scotland\, in case you were wondering)\, Bute is a jewel of an island in the Firth of Clyde. \nAnd Bute Noir is a jewel of a festival. \nI mean\, just look at the names on that poster above. \nTalk about star power? \nOK\, there’s also Caro Ramsay but you can’t have everything. \nThe islanders have really taken this annual event to their hearts. They pack every panel or event\, with many selling out within days of going on sale. \nThis year’s festival takes place over the weekend of August 2-4 at a variety of venues in Rothesay\, including the museum\, the library and Print Point\, the island’s excellent book shop. \nHere’s is the full list of events but most of them have already sold out. There are a few tickets left at the time of typing for a few\, so if you fancy trip doon the watter\, contact Print Point on 01700 503389 to find out what’s available. \n \n  \n
