SUMMARY:Leaping lizards! It's almost Bloody Scotland time!
DESCRIPTION:To be honest\, I can’t believe it’s almost here. \nIt seems like only yesterday that I shared a stage with Catriona MacPherson\, Gillian Galbraith\, Russel D McLean and the always wonderful Theresa Talbot (she paid me to say that). But it wasn’t yesterday\, it was last September. \nThis year I’m involved in three things. Yes\, three! Some mistake\, surely? But no\, I’ve managed to elbow my way in. \nFirst up\, I’m chairing Kate London\, Clare Mackintosh and RJ Mitchell in the ‘From Cops to Robbers’ panel. (Saturday Sept 9\, .5.30pm – 6.30pm). They are all former police officers now turned to writing. Naturally\, there is no suggestion that they have turned to robbery as well\, but I’ll keep a firm grip of my clipboard just the same. \nDetails here: \nFrom Cops to Robbers \nThen\, on Sunday\, I’m flexing my acting muscles to play Inspector Faro in Alanna Knight’s play ‘The Case of the Vanishing Vagrant.’ \nI reject any suggestion that because of the way I dress I should play the vagrant. \nI’m looking forward to this and can only hope I can fill Stuart MacBride’s shoes adequately. He played Faro in last year’s play and was very\, very\, VERY good. \nWhat’s doubly daunting is that fellow cast members Marsali Taylor\, Abir Mukherjee and Gordon Brown have to perform knowing that a proper actor is standing beside us. \nHollywood star Harley Jane Kozak also write crime and she has agreed to take part in the play. \nI know the rest of the cast join me in saying GULP. \nDetails here: \nInspector Faro Investigates \nImmediately after that – we’ll barely have to time to fend off our adoring fans (cough) – Gordon Brown and I will head to another venue for ‘Four Blokes in Search of a Plot’. \nOur Crime Factor comrades Neil Broadfoot and Mark Leggatt will make up the quivering quartet trying to create a crime storybefore the audience’s very eyes\, while also keeping up a stream of witty banter and interesting conversation. Or something. \nDetails here: \nFour Blokes in Search of a Plot \nIt’s going to be fun and the entire festival is one not to be missed. Still some tickets left for a wide variety of events. \nFull list of panels and events here: \nBloody Scotland 2017

SUMMARY:Carry on Sleuthing in Sanquhar

Malone (below) will return as various characters\, as will Douglas Skelton. \nMichael. J. Malone \nThey will be joined for this epic production (and I use the word epic in its broadest possible sense. Ditto the word production. And the word comedy above) will be debut crime writer Lucy Cameron (below). \n \nNeil Broadfoot below) will also be on hand to deal with the various complicated bits of stage business that makes the show such a success. SUMMARY:Carry on Sleuthing - the most fun you'll have solving a murder
DESCRIPTION:A man is murdered on a luxury ocean liner. There is a variety of suspects. Shrewd amateur detective Letitia Luvibod is on hand to solve it – and you can help her. \nAnd it’s all happening in Ayr’s Carnegie Library. \nAyrshire-based authors Michael. J. Malone and Douglas Skelton will join library staff to present the radio-style play ‘Carry on Sleuthing’ on Monday night. \nThere will be jokes\, a mystery to solve\, more jokes and wine – which will help with the jokes. \n \nSkelton wrote the play specially for the event following a challenge from the staff to cup with something special for National Crime Reading Month. \nHe said: “The gauntlet was thrown down and for a long time I claimed a bad back prevented me from picking it up. The bad part of my back had a big yellow streak running through it but finally I overcame my fears\, took down the Big Book of Bad Jokes for Boys and began writing. \n“Long before I turned to killing people for a living – on paper at least – I’d written comedy for shows on hospital radio in Glasgow. I’d never actually weaved a solvable mystery through them\, though\, so this presented a whole range of challenges.” \nHe continued: “I think the title of the play shows the rough level of the humour\, although perhaps not as racy as you might expect. It is a family show\, after all!” \nSkelton has roped in friend and fellow author Michael J. Malone to tap into his inner De Niro to take part. \nMichael said: “I’ve been reading up on Stanislavsky to properly get into my character and bring him to life. I intend to bring some gravitas to what are\, frankly\, some pretty ridiculous scenes. \n“Or I may just get some wine down my neck and go for some cheap laughs.” \n  \n‘Carry on Sleuthing’ is part of National Crime Reading Month and can be seen in the Carnegie Library\, Ayr on Monday June 29\, 7pm to 9pm. It’s part of the Book Group Social Evening although anyone is welcome. Tickets cost £2 and booking is essential. Tel: 01292 286385 or drop-in to the library at 12 Main Street\, Ayr KA8 8EB.
